The local currency is the Jordanian Dinar, symbol JD, There are 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 JD notes. The dinar is divided into 100 piasters (pronounced “pee-asters”) of 1000 fils (“fills”). The fils is the unit most commonly used and you will usually see prices written as 4,750 (which is 4 JD and 750 fils).Currency can be exchanged at major banks, exchange booths and at most hotels. Street money-changers are best avoided. Exchange rates are set daily by the Jordanian Central Bank.

There are a large number of banks and money exchanger offices "Dollars-Dinar" that can change cash currencies in Jordan. Moreover, all touristic shops, restaurants, and bars will actually accept dollars or Euros at rates that are relatively close to the official ones. Make sure you know the current exchange rate of your currency to Jordanian dinar. It is also good to know that credit cards are widely used and accepted in Jordan.

Credit cards are widely accepted in Jordan at hotels, restaurants and shops, including American Express, Visa, Diners Club, and MasterCard. Please note that many smaller shops still prefer cash payment in the Jordanian currency, and it’s essential for shopping in the local souks.

In the first half of the year, the peak season usually starts in mid-February and continues till the end of May. It starts again in September and continues till the end of November. These are the times when the weather is at its best, but it is worth noting that weather patterns are inconsistent, so it is possible to have perfect weather throughout the year, as most regions record less than 30 days of rain per year. The summer is hot but nowhere as hot as the Gulf countries, and is perfectly bearable.

Depending on the group size, you'll be travelling in an air-conditioned vehicle such as a tourist car or mini van (depending on group size). At the entrance to the Wadi Rum protected area you'll board well-used 4x4 vehicles to navigate the rolling orange sands. Six passengers get in each vehicle plus a local driver. It's the quickest and easiest way to get to our desert camp.

Jordan has a tiny sliver of Red Sea coastline - 27 kilometres to be precise. The resort city of Aqaba is the best place to enjoy some R&R; at the Red Sea coast, though of course, the Dead Sea is also a great option. Wi-Fi service is available in all hotels, cafes and restaurants, but do not expect it in Wadi Rum. In order to be able to stay online, we recommend that you purchase a local sim card upon your arrival.

Unfortunately, Petra by Night is not part of the Jordan Pass. the Jordan Pass is for regular hours Petra visits only (between 6am and 6pm). As mentioned above, you need to purchase an additional ticket to attend Petra by Night as it is put on by a private company not the Ministry of Tourism.

The entry ticket to Petra includes a horse-ride at the entrance to the site, however, (Please note that, you must pay the tip for the horse handler if you do take the horse ride).

Petra by Night occurs three times a week. It takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The Petra by Night experience goes from 8:30pm until 10:30pm. Arrive at the visitors center for 8pm if you want to be one of the first to arrive at the Treasury. (Do not worry if you are not first, many will leave after the show giving you a few minutes to capture the candles and the Treasury backdrop).

Petra by Night is accessed through the Petra Visitor’s center! Once you have your tickets, you can go through the main trail towards the Siq. There are no horses or cars available during the evening Petra performance and guests will need to be able to walk the 1.2km Siq to the Treasury and back.

If you have children, they are welcome at Petra by Night. Children under 10 are admitted free of charge. Children 10 and over pay the same rate as adults 17JD (about USD$25).

I will warn you that those out-of-this-world images of Petra by Night with the Treasury and the Stars above are not taken by ordinary travellers with a camera. They are taken by professional photographers who not only know a great angle when they see one, but also are well versed in exposure, depth of field and have lots of practice exposing for stars. They probably have those camera’s mounted on a tripod that costs more than your camera! With the limited lighting, your cell phone will probably get a shaky image of the candles and the Treasury. Do not expect much more. But still you can use your own camera or cellphone for taking your own pictures

Wadi Rum Jeeps "Bedouin jeep” are old models vehicles without A/C and seat belt. They belong to the local Bedouin association.

Inside the tents are comfortable camp beds and warm bedding, so you don't need to bring a sleeping bag on your trip to Jordan. However, you may wish to bring your own liner. Showers and toilets are in an outhouse close by with hot running water. There's a communal area with rugs and cushions where a traditional Bedouin dinner is eaten in the evening. The camp's position at the foot of an easily-climbed rocky hill makes it the perfect spot to watch the sunset.
